Weiye "Betty" Chen, PhD Graduate Student in the Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) Department, was part of the global service team at the IBM China Research Lab as a global summer intern this past summer.  The team's attempt to improve the application maintenance services using data analysis on the monitored machine data, which are related to the application performance, achieved some exciting results. The project mainly focused on the anomaly detection of the monitored data and the analysis of the relationship between the monitored data anomaly and application issue. The data analysis skills obtained through the ACMS PhD graduate program provided Betty with the knowledge necessary to successfully perform her research.
