Spatio-temporal point pattern analysis and their application to terrorism modeling
Spatio-temporal point pattern data concern with random spatial locations and time point where “events” are observed (e.g. COVID-19 outbreak, earthquake records). In this talk, I will describe a few flexible spatio-temporal point process models to describe spatio-temporal point pattern data for terrorism from the Global Terrorism Database. Statistical methods in dealing with spatio-temporal point patterns of terror attack patterns by major groups in Afghanistan and Nigeria will be presented.
Bio: Mikyoung Jun is Professor of Mathematics and ConocoPhillips Data Science Professor at University of Houston since 2020. She has obtained her PhD in Statistics from University of Chicago in 2005, and has been Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor of Statistics at Texas A&M University from 2005 to 2020. Her research interests lie in spatio-temporal statistical models for environmental and social science applications. She is a fellow of American Statistical Association, and an elected member of International Statistical Institute
