Dr. Murphy will discuss the "4 pillars of ML" - prediction / forecasting, decision making under uncertainty, knowledge discovery, and data generation and provide some vignettes of work he has done in each of these areas.
Dr. Murphy is a research scientist at Google Brain in California. He was previously a tenured professor of computer science and statistics at U. British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He has authored 3 text books on machine learning, available at probml.github.io.
